Step inside, and you’ll find a cozy, unpretentious dining atmosphere where the focus is firmly on the food. The interior doesn’t rely on flashy decor; instead, it’s the mouthwatering aroma of perfectly grilled chicken and sizzling wok-fried specialties that truly sets the scene. It’s a place where friendly smiles from the staff and the aroma of bold, savory sauces instantly invite you to settle in and savor each bite.

The menu is a treasure trove for anyone craving Japanese favorites with a hearty, flavorful twist. Standout dishes include the Pork Teriyaki and the Beef and Pork Teriyaki Combo, both beautifully balanced with tender meats glazed in a subtly smoky, well-rounded sauce that is never overly sweet. The Bulgogi offers a deliciously marinated beef experience, while the Combo Fried Rice is a perfect side or a satisfying meal on its own, packed with fresh ingredients and a fantastic savory kick.

Noodle lovers are equally spoiled with a diverse selection of expertly prepared noodle soups and stir-fries. Whether it’s the fiery depth of the Beef Spicy Ramen or the savory, shrimp-filled Udon with 5pc Shrimp, each bowl is a comforting hug in culinary form. The Combo Yakisoba, featuring chicken, beef, pork, and shrimp, is another highlight that showcases a harmonious mix of textures and flavors in every forkful.

Konich's Teriyaki also shines with its Teriyaki Combos, which creatively pair favorites such as Chicken & Orange Chicken or the indulgent Chicken & Kalbi (Short Ribs). Sea soned to perfection and served with fresh sides, these combos exemplify the restaurant’s commitment to hearty, satisfying meals that keep guests coming back for more.

House Specials like the Dinner Special — which comes with chicken teriyaki, rice, salad, shrimp tempura, and gyoza or egg roll — highlight the vibrant variety and value that diners adore. Patrons appreciate not only the full plates but the generosity with sauces and accompaniments, making each visit feel like a feast.

Customer testimonials reflect the high regard Konich's holds in the community. “The food was the best teriyaki I have had in this area,” shares B and J, praising the authentic flavors and friendly owner despite the neighborhood’s challenges. Aaron R has been loyal for over a decade, noting the consistent quality and satisfying portions that continue to “hit the spot.” Megan Hood calls it “hands down the best teriyaki in Des Moines,” particularly raving about the perfect broth of the wonton soup and the warm hospitality from Tim and his family. Bobby Mills praises the “prompt and friendly service,” the perfectly grilled chicken with its subtle smoky aroma, and the impeccably crunchy, well-seasoned fried chicken that boast bold, balanced sauces — far more than just sugary glazes.

This place is legit. I had the Mongolian beef wok and my wife had the general tso chicken wok. The food was the best teriyaki I have had in this area. The restaurant is in a rough area, that's the only draw back. The owner was really nice. We will definitely be back.

Okay health department rating. Didn't see it until after we ordered our food. Very nice people work there. But the food was just so so

Solid teriyaki spot. Been coming here for 10+ years and still tastes the same. Good size portions, chicken teriyaki always hits the spot. Excellent egg rolls and they do have lunch and daily specials.

Hands down the best Teriyaki in Des Moines. The Wonton soup is so good and has a perfect broth base. The Teriyaki, sweet and sour, and gyoza is our go to's. They are very generous with sauce and portions are big. Tim and family are the most welcoming and friendly people too. Wish I could give more than 5 stars

Promt and friendly service! The interior is cozy and simple, they are too focused on how amazing they are at making food. 5 stars because it's packed full of flavor. The chicken is grilled with a subtle smoke, the breading on the fried chicken is the perfect crunch but with seasonings shining, and the sauces are bold and well rounded, not just a sugar concoction. Absolutely wonderful teriyaki

A quiet and unassuming small restaurant with delicious teriyaki tofu that has a crispy outside, soft and steamy and flavorful inside. Served with white rice and iceberg lettuce salad, it was a yummy lunch!
